We have a rich history of community engagement through our staff charity activities, sponsorship, education and environmental initiatives and we will continue to engage with our community to deliver those initiatives that have the most positive impacts.
We launched our Biodiversity Action Plan in 2023 which identifies the biodiversity present on the Shannon Campus and sets out a series of actions the group will take to preserve and enhance that biodiversity over the five years of the plan. The plan contains a series of measures that we will implement including a pollinator friendly grass management regime, pollinator friendly planting, installation of bird, bat and solitary bee boxes, woodland enhancement, hedgerow management, habitat transition monitoring, and education, outreach and engagement.

The Shannon Airport Group have a rich history of community engagement and in particular through employee charitable work. The Shannon Airport Group Charity Committee was founded in 2014. Each year our staff vote for two worthy charities to benefit from staff led charity events. In 2024 these charities are Milford Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland. To date our staff have raised over €420,000 for charitable causes.

With the help of our local primary schools in Shannon we designed and developed a community biodiversity garden in our West Zone Business Park on the Shannon Campus. The garden includes a variety of features including wildflower meadows, native woodland and hedgerow species, pollinator friendly flower beds, herb garden and nesting habitats for solitary bees and insects, log piles and a picnic area. We regularly host events and educational workshops in our garden with local groups and schools on our local biodiversity and the importance of preserving it.
Getting to where you want to go when you want to go is so important to so many older people. Shannon received this certification following a programme of work to enhance its facilities for older people and becoming as inclusive as possible.
The Age Friendly Programme is part of a worldwide, World Health Organisation (WHO) inspired initiative. This category recognises the vital difference that availability to good quality, easily accessible, user friendly and reliable transport options can make to older peers.
We were the first airport in Europe to open a sensory room for passengers with sensory and neurodevelopmental needs. Our purpose-built sensory room is available for passengers involved with our special assistance programme and is and open 24 hours a day.

Shannon Airport is a proud sponsor of Munster Rugby until 2026 and is Munster team's official airport. The group was also the official partner of the 2023 KPMG Women’s Irish Open. This provided an opportunity to highlight the fantastic Irish golfing talent, the mid-west region as a tourist destination and promote the region and Shannon Airport to a world-wide TV audience.
The Shannon Airport Groups commitment to environmental sustainability is more than a pledge. We intend to promote a collaborative environment and we work closely with many different companies including the regional chambers of commerce as well as engaging with national and international bodies and organisations.The Group plays an active role on the Shannon Chamber Mid-West Sustainability Network and was integral in the organisation of Shannon Chambers Sustainability week for the mid-west region.
