Shannon Airport experiencing busiest Christmas in 14 years
Over 121,000 passengers expected over the holiday season marking an 18% increase on 2022
Friday 22nd December 2023: Shannon Airport is in the midst of its busiest Christmas since 2009, fourteen years ago. The airport is prepared to give its renowned warm welcome to more than 121,000 passengers during the Christmas holiday period, an 18% surge when compared to the same period last year, which saw 75,000 passengers travelling through the airport.
During the lead up to Christmas day, the airport has seen arrivals from as far as Australia, with many passengers also returning from the United States as well as on many of the airport’s European routes. The rise in passenger numbers reflects the growing popularity of Shannon Airport's services, with arrivals complementing the seamless and friendly service provided by staff.
The airport is a hive of festivity this week, with live musical entertainment each day to welcome arrivals, while the terminal building has been adorned with decorations, including a magnificent 12-foot Christmas tree in the airport arrivals hall and a life-size Santa sleigh for visitors to enjoy and capture memorable moments.
CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, Mary Considine said: “We are delighted here at Shannon Airport, to be in the midst of our busiest Christmas in 14 years, with over 121,000 passengers expected. This also marks a significant 18% increase on last year.
The increase in passengers choosing Shannon Airport is testament to our exceptional staff, whose dedication and hard work continues to ensure a warm and welcoming environment for everyone travelling through the airport.
On behalf of all our team, I would like to wish all our passengers a joyful Christmas and a happy New Year.”
